  • Overview

    The Senior Buyer is responsible for leading and driving the overall direction and performance of their respective classes through the entire Product Life Cycle process.  They are responsible for translating knowledge of brand-specific and marketplace trends into an actionable seasonal business plan to achieve sales and profit plans.  The Senior Buyer is to execute the vision of the company and intuitively respond to customer feedback.  They act as the connector between the financial and creative aspects of the business, and are the voice for our Mom 2 Be. 

    Responsibilities

    Business Management:

    • Financially responsible for classes, while managing a team to exceed sales and margin for all channels. Manages OTB, IMU, and MKDs for assigned classes.
    • Analyzes current business trends and identifies business risks and opportunities through analyzing sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape.
    • Identifies how current trends will impact future strategies and adjusts as needed, while communicating opportunities for growth and decline by class.
    • Partners with GMM and/or DMM, planning, allocation, and the web team to execute assortment and promotional strategies in order to effectively manage sales, gross margin, and inventory.
    • Leads team to manage styles to the plan and by channel, ensuring that the assortment is properly balanced by attributes and that we are taking the correct inventory position with key items, while still taking fashion risks.
    • Recommend chase and cancel strategies.
    • Owns presentation of business in all Monday Business and OTB meetings.
    • Presents product and investment strategies in final line review meetings to CEO and SVP of Brand.

    Product Management:

    • Leads team to create a detailed framework of the business needs by division and class which connect the financial goals and design’s vision. Partners with Design, Product Development, and Technical Design to create a curated assortment by class, and bring the line architecture from concept to creation.
    • Disciplines self and others to understand the M2B, competition and ability to think creatively to seek new business opportunities to drive total business.
    • Travel domestically to markets, shows and stores
    • Assists in seasonal selection of all marketing and promotional initiatives, while adjusting buys accordingly.
    • Partner with visual merchandising team to drive sales results through proper placement and representation of product.

    Communication & People Management:

    • Builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional team members.
    • Develops, manages and mentors direct reports.
    • Interfaces professionally and positively, and works effectively in group settings.
    • Assists in building and maintaining a highly engaged team.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree and 8+ year’s prior experience in Buying and/or Merchandising.
    • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills
    • Eye for emerging trends
    • Strong leadership capabilities but also a team player
    • Strong communication, presentation, negotiating, and influencing skills
    • Solution driven and proactive
    • Detail oriented with excellent follow through skills
