  • Overview

    The Merchandise Manager is responsible for leading a team in driving the overall direction and performance of the division through the entire Product Life Cycle process.  They are responsible for managing, mentoring, and developing the buying team.  The Merchandise Manager is to execute the vision of the company and intuitively respond to customer feedback, with the directional help of their GMM/DMM.  They act as the connector between the financial and creative aspects of the business, and are the voice for our Mom 2 Be. 

    Responsibilities

    Business Management:

    • Financially responsible for several classes across the division, while managing a team to exceed sales and margin for all channels.   Develops a merchandising strategy to maximize sales, margin, and profitability targets, while overseeing OTB, IMU, and markdowns.
    • Consistently reviews current business trends and identifies risks and opportunities through analyzing sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape.
    • Partners with GMM and/or DMM, planning, allocation, and the web team to execute assortment and promotional strategies in order to effectively drive sales, gross margin, and inventory turns.
    • Identifies how current trends will impact future strategies, and is aware of any potential sales risks or opportunities, and communicates an action plan to their GMM/DMM as to how to maximize opportunities for growth, while minimizing any sales risks by class.
    • Works closely with visual team to ensure product placement in store to maximize sales opportunities and minimize risks.
    • Leads team to manage styles to the plan and by channel, ensuring that the assortment is properly balanced by attributes and that we are taking the correct inventory position with key items, while still taking fashion risks.

     

    Product Management:

    • Leads team to create a detailed framework of the business needs by class which connect the financial goals and design’s vision.  Partners with Design, Product Development, and Technical Design to create a curated assortment by class, and bring the line architecture from concept to creation.
    • Disciplines self and others to understand the M2B, competition and ability to think creatively to seek new business opportunities to drive total business.
    • Works with GMM/DMM and design to set direction for division on key fashion trends and messages.
    • Knowledge of fabrics, trims, manufacturing, construction, and quality.
    • Works closely with both design and production to achieve targeted IMU targets.
    • Oversees style outs to ensure brand cohesiveness and clear outfitting.
    • Travel domestically to markets, shows and stores 
    • Identifies new vendors and business opportunities in the market place.

     

    Communication & People Management:

    • Builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional team members.
    • Develops, manages and mentors direct reports to help them be successful in the business.
    • Interfaces professionally and positively, and works effectively in group settings.
    • Assists in building and maintaining a highly engaged team.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree and 10+ years in buying/merchandising and experience overseeing a merchandising team.
    • Proven track record of success and ability to drive a business
    • Proven ability to create product assortment to meet customer needs.
    • Ability to develop a plan and execute strategic initiatives
    • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to build partnerships across all levels of the organization.
    • Ability to develop and empower a team.
    • Eye for emerging trends
    • Strong communication, presentation, negotiating, and influencing skills
