  • Overview

    The Associate Buyer collaborates with DMM and/or Buyer to drive the overall direction and performance of their respective classes through the entire Product Life Cycle process.  They are responsible for translating knowledge of brand-specific and marketplace trends into an actionable seasonal business plan to achieve sales and profit plans.  The Associate Buyer is to execute the vision of the company and intuitively respond to customer feedback.  They act as the connector between the financial and creative aspects of the business, and act as a voice for our Mom 2 Be. 

    Responsibilities

    Business Management:

    • Manages assigned classes, while performing assistant duties. Partners with DMM and/or Buyer in all facets of managing successful classes to meet financial objectives.
    • Works with DMM and/or Buyer to manage financial elements of the business – OTB, IMU, and MKDs for assigned classes.
    • Analyzes current business trends and identifies business risks and opportunities through analyzing sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape. Has thorough understanding of best and worst sellers.
    • Partners with DMM and/or Buyer, planning, allocation, and the web team to execute investment and promotional strategies in order to effectively manage sales, gross margin, and inventory.
    • Manages styles to the plan and by channel, ensuring that the assortment is properly balanced by attributes, and that we are taking the correct inventory position with key items, while still taking fashion risks.
    • Responsible for completion and maintenance of assortment sheets and on order. Reconciles receipts and manages Style Creation and PO process.
    • Communicate changes in deliveries, receipt quantities, and other merchandise operations to appropriate members of the cross functional team on a timely basis.
    • Presents product and investment strategies in final line review meetings to CEO and SVP of Brand.

    Product Management:

    • Partners with DMM and/or Buyer, Design, Product Development, and Technical Design teams to execute trend-right, saleable fashion for our Mom 2 Be.
    • Shops competition and our own stores on a regular basis for current fashion trends, price points, and promotional activity.
    • Periodically attends local markets and shows
    • Assists in seasonal selection of all marketing and promotional initiatives, while adjusting buys accordingly.
    • Partner with visual merchandising team to drive sales results through proper placement and representation of product.
    • Assist in all sample maintenance for Business Reviews, Floorset, Web & Marketing Shoots, etc.

    Communication & People Management:

    • Builds collaborative relationships with cross-functional team members.
    • Interfaces professionally and positively, and works effectively in group settings.
    • Mentors, trains, and coaches assistants/interns on performance expectations (when applicable)
    • Assists in building and maintaining a highly engaged team.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years in buying/merchandising experience as well as shopping the Market
    • Proficient in Excel, and Power Point, preferably with knowledge of advance formulas & pivot tables
    • Detail Oriented
    • Ability to multi task
    • Strong communication, organization & follow up skills
    • Ability to be flexible and adjust to change
    • Background in shopping Market Vendors
    • Some travel to NYC, LA, DC and local stores
